Connect Claude to your ChatGPT history
In a few steps, Claude can answer using context saved from your ChatGPT conversations.
Step 1Install the browser extension
Install ContinueVault from the Chrome Web Store. The extension can save conversations from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, and Perplexity.
Step 2Sign in to the extension
Click the extension icon and sign in. Use the same email as your ContinueVault account.
Step 3Open ChatGPT in your browser
The extension auto-detects you’re on ChatGPT and prompts to sync that account.
Step 4Run your first sync
Click sync in the extension popup. Free includes the last 7 days from each connected account; Pro can sync full history from connected web accounts.
Step 5Open your dashboard
Visit continuevault.com/dashboard. You’ll see your synced ChatGPT conversations grouped into threads.
At first, each session is a thread and given a temporary name. You can rename the ones you want to continue.
Step 6Connect Claude to your vault
Open Claude.ai and add ContinueVault as a custom connector. The MCP URL is https://continuevault.com/mcp-vault
See setup instructions for the exact Claude.ai UI path; we keep that page current as Claude.ai’s UI evolves.
Using ContinueVault with ChatGPT
ChatGPT does not connect to ContinueVault the same way Claude.ai, Mistral Le Chat, or Perplexity Computer do. To continue saved work in ChatGPT, start from the ContinueVault GPT.
If you are already in ChatGPT, use the ContinueVault item in the ChatGPT sidebar (added by the ContinueVault browser extension). It takes you to the ContinueVault GPT page in one click. Once you are there, ask for what you need:
Continue my Q4 research thread.
or:
Use ContinueVault to summarize what I worked on in ChatGPT this week.
Tip: Bookmark the ContinueVault GPT if you use ChatGPT often. Then start there whenever you want ChatGPT to work with your saved ContinueVault context.
Step 7Ask Claude
Use ContinueVault to summarize what I worked on in ChatGPT this week in two paragraphs. Focus on decisions, open questions, and projects I returned to more than once.
Then:
Now turn that into a short plan for what I should pick up next.
That is the core ContinueVault loop: save the work once, then bring it into the next AI chat when you need it. Claude just answered using your ChatGPT history.
Next steps
Prefer explicit commands? Use ContinueVault commands directly.
Using a different AI? The same pattern works anywhere ContinueVault supports continuation: save from one connected account, then use ContinueVault GPT with ChatGPT or any ContinueVault MCP-connected AI tools.
