Continue a ChatGPT conversation in Claude
When you want to pick up one specific conversation, name the thread and bring it forward.
What is a thread?
ContinueVault starts by saving each AI session as its own thread with a temporary name. When a conversation becomes work you want to continue, rename that thread. The name becomes the handle you can use later — “Use ContinueVault to continue the Q4 product planning thread.”
Why this is different from a memory query
The Quick Start showed Claude summarizing across all your ChatGPT conversations. This walkthrough shows Claude continuing one specific conversation, with the same context the original AI had.
Step 1Find the thread in your dashboard
Open continuevault.com/dashboard. Browse or search for the conversation you want to continue. At first, each session is a thread and given a temporary name.
Step 2Rename the thread
In the extension, rename the thread you want to continue. Use a name Claude can recognize later — for example, “Q4 product planning” or “React state management debugging.”
Step 3Open Claude.ai
Make sure Claude is connected to your ContinueVault vault. (If you haven’t connected Claude yet, see the connection setup page or the Quick Start.)
Step 4Ask Claude to continue the thread by name
Use ContinueVault to continue the “[thread name]” thread. Pick up from where I left off, with the same context the original AI had.
Replace [thread name] with the name you gave the thread in Step 2.
Advanced: call the command yourself.
Step 5Claude responds with the thread's context loaded
Claude’s response will start with a link token like CV44 — that’s ContinueVault’s confirmation that the connection worked. The rest of Claude’s response continues your thread with full context loaded.
From here, the conversation continues as if you’d never left ChatGPT — except now you’re talking to Claude. Ask follow-ups, request changes, take new directions. Claude has the full thread.
That’s the second ContinueVault loop: name the conversations that matter, then continue them in a supported AI tool.
